“After Restore, My Heart Can Smile Again”: A Testimony of True Healing

At Restore After Abortion, we believe in the power of our clients’ stories.  Their testimonies uncover the emotional distress that abortion can trigger at times (something that’s rarely acknowledged publicly or discussed before abortion procedures, but that’s real nevertheless).  Our clients’ stories also speak to the power of human resiliency and the potential for true emotional healing.  Programs like Restore play an important role in this by helping women and men come to terms with difficult abortion experiences. Here’s the testimony of one former client who wished to share her own Restore story anonymously.

“Anonymous” came to Restore in her late-twenties, weighed down by sadness, regret, guilt, and a lack of motivation, which she believed were linked to abortions in her past.  We connected her with a Restore leader, who Anonymous described as, “extremely patient, kind, reassuring, and respectful of anything I shared with her.”  She went on to say of her leader, “Her tenderness really encouraged me to continue participating on this healing journey.”  Anonymous and her Restore leader engaged in a book study that allowed Anonymous to consider her abortion and post-abortion experiences from angles she’d never thought of before.

Here’s how Anonymous summed up her overall experience with Restore:

I feel that I am ready to close this chapter of my life and seal it with a bow. I am extremely grateful for this program. It has truly healed me. I no longer walk around with a heavy ball of grief. I can love again and speak life into the world. I was truly lost before Restore, and now I feel like I am finding and rebuilding myself… Now I am better off than before, and I never thought this could happen.  After Restore, my heart can smile again. I feel genuinely happy and I have forgiven myself and my past.”

Anonymous reported that, after the Restore program, her emotional health had improved by 70%!
